The Colorado Photonics Industry Association (CPIA)
is a volunteer-staffed, not-for-profit association dedicated to enhancing the photonics environment in Colorado and around the world. By uniting industrial, academic and governmental objectives, CPIA encourages cooperation, collaboration and partnering to enable growth and expansion.

Founded in 1997, CPIA now includes over 80 members representing manufacturing, research, technology, development and governmental programs. CPIA has focused on three core activities: quarterly meetings, Photonics West and publishing the Photonics Industry Directory on a bi-annual basis.

What Is Photonics?
Photonics is anything that is done to control light, combining optics, electro-optics, and optoelectronics. It is both its own industry and an enabling technology for other industries, including medicine, defense, biotechnology, nanotechnology, manufacturing, remote sensing, communications, transportation, space exploration, and many others.

Examples of photonics are all around us every day. Just a few examples are eyeglasses, binoculars, microscopes, cameras, CDs and DVDs, LED displays, and fluorescent lighting.
